Edward E. Hartman, Inspector General
Edward E. Hartman, a service-connected combat veteran who served in the Persian Gulf War, was appointed Inspector General for the more than 1 million-member DAV in August 2009. Mr. Hartman works at DAV National Headquarters in Erlanger, Kentucky, near Cincinnati.
As DAV’s Inspector General, Mr. Hartman assures compliance with the National Constitution and By-Laws of the organization; to protect and preserve the integrity and good name of the DAV; and oversee the solicitation and fund raising activities of the DAV, its Departments, Chapters and subordinate affiliations.
Mr. Hartman joined the DAV professional staff in 1995 as a member of Class II of the DAV National Service Officer Training Academy through the University of Colorado at Denver. Following graduation, he was assigned as an NSO Trainee at the National Service Office in Washington, D.C. In 1996, he was promoted to the position of National Appeals Officer at the DAV’s Board of Veterans Appeals Office, and later to Assistant Supervisory NSO at the Washington, D.C. National Service Office. In May 1999, he was appointed Associate National Director of Voluntary Services and Assistant National Director of Voluntary Services in August 2000. In March 2002, he was appointed Acting National Director of Voluntary Services and served in this capacity until being named Director in June 2002. In April 2009, Hartman was appointed Deputy Inspector General prior to his current appointment. Additionally, Mr. Hartman has served on and chaired several VA advisory committees during his DAV career.
A native of Huntington, Indiana, Mr. Hartman entered the U.S. Army following graduation from Huntington North High School. He was trained as an Infantryman at Fort Benning, Georgia and the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California. He was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division during the Persian Gulf War and served with other Army units during Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Provide Comfort.
Mr. Hartman holds several memberships in DAV and resides in Burlington, Kentucky.
