DAV statement on the proposal to rename Veterans Day

News | May 02, 2025

DAV is an organization of veterans helping veterans.

The reasons are as individual as our members. Some join for the fellowship at our more than 1,200 local chapters. Some for the inspiring national events. Others for opportunities to serve their fellow veterans and their families. And many join to continue the fight to support the rights and benefits of all veterans. DAV understands the needs of veterans because we are veterans—1 million strong. We invite you to join our cause.

“Veterans bring incredible talent, resilience and leadership to everything they do. We’ve seen firsthand how their experience strengthens teams and drives impact.” – Luke Sturgis, U.S. Army veteran & leader at Artemis ARC

DAV was proud to name Artemis ARC, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business in Alexandria, VA, as our Small Employer of the Year for their outstanding commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. 👏

➡️ Do you know a small business that goes above and beyond to empower veterans in the workplace? Help us recognize them with the DAV Patriot Employer Awards! 👉 dav.la/4pgM9oG.

During the National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic, the focus tends to stay on the veteran participants. This year, for the first time, we offered a special event for the caregivers that were in attendance. The often overlooked role of caregiver is instrumental in the rehabilitative process, and these unsung heroes deserve recognition for their strength, humility and determination.

The purpose of this caregiver event was to provide a bit of respite and comradery, while allowing the caregivers the opportunity to meet National Caregiver Support Program Director, Ron Minter, and learn more about DAV Caregivers Support.

Remember, behind many disabled veterans, there is a strong caregiver who provides daily assistance, while often-times putting their own priorities aside. To all the caregivers - we see you. Thank you!
