All hands (and paws) on deck
DAV state leaders—and a few of their most loyal, four-legged battle buddies—took over DAV National Headquarters in Erlanger, Kentucky, for the annual Commanders and Adjutants Association Orientation. Scheduled following state conventions, this strategic launchpad ensures state leaders are fully equipped to handle the logistical, financial and administrative heavy lifting of the upcoming year.
Under the direct guidance of national leadership, including National Adjutant Barry Jesinoski, attendees dove deep into vital details: organizational health, national bylaws and financial accountability. But it wasn’t all rules and regulations. A massive chunk of the mission was dedicated to sharpening service delivery and legislative advocacy. Leaders got the latest intel about veterans programs, ensuring they can effectively manage, nominate and support chapter and department service officers for mandatory annual certifications.
Ultimately, the orientation transforms individual state departments into a unified national front. By pairing seasoned department veterans with newly minted commanders and adjutants, the orientation builds a powerhouse network of peer-to-peer mentorship. When these leaders finally head back to their home communities—binders packed and pups in tow—they leave Erlanger with an operational blueprint to protect, expand and deploy free professional services to veterans nationwide.
